Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about EU Digital Product Passport compliance.
A Digital Product Passport is a digital record that contains information about a product's sustainability, origin, composition, and environmental impact. Mandated by the EU Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR), it enables consumers and businesses to make informed decisions and supports circular economy objectives. Each product receives a unique identifier linked to its passport via a QR code or Data Matrix code.
The EU Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR) entered into force in 2024. The first mandatory Digital Product Passports apply to batteries from February 18, 2027. Additional product categories will follow in subsequent phases: textiles, electronics, furniture, detergents, and more. The timeline depends on specific delegated acts for each product category.
The ESPR applies to nearly all products placed on the EU market. The initial priority categories include: batteries (mandatory from Feb 2027), textiles and footwear, electronics and ICT equipment, furniture, detergents and cleaning products, and iron, steel, and aluminium. Each category has specific data requirements defined in its delegated act.
Our platform generates GS1 Digital Link compatible QR codes. When a consumer scans the QR code with their smartphone camera, they are directed to the product's Digital Product Passport page. This page displays all required information: product identification, manufacturer details, material composition, carbon footprint, circularity data, and compliance certificates. The page is available in all 24 official EU languages.
We support all 24 official EU languages: Bulgarian, Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Estonian, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hungarian, Irish, Italian, Latvian, Lithuanian, Maltese, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Slovak, Slovenian, Spanish, and Swedish. Our platform includes automatic translation with manual review workflows to ensure accuracy.
All data is encrypted at rest and in transit using industry-standard encryption (AES-256 for storage, TLS 1.3 for transmission). We implement role-based access control (RBAC) with five distinct roles. Our platform supports PII encryption with blind indexes, and we are fully compliant with GDPR. Data residency options are available for EU-based hosting.
GS1 Digital Link is a standard that connects physical products to their digital information using web URIs. It builds on existing GS1 identifiers (like GTINs) and enables a single QR code to link to multiple data sources. This is the recommended approach for EU Digital Product Passports, as it ensures interoperability across supply chains and compliance systems.
